People make it happen

Designing for a better world.

Curiosity has always been the driving force behind the industrial- and digital product design at Design-People. Ever since 2005, we have been asking the questions that take our clients’ businesses to the next level. We prioritize understanding the needs, motivations, and barriers for each user in order to find out where the meaningful value lies for the business.

We know design isn’t just about making a product easy on the eyes. Our goal is to simplify and improve product experiences by applying a strategic design thinking approach to our work. In the end, we believe this leads to better solutions for people and for the planet.

A winning water-metering solution

A wish for better usability and workflow of Kamstrup’s water metering system, combined with introduction of a smartphone app, was the challenge for which Kamstrup onboarded design-people. To obtain a deeper understanding of the user perspective, design-people organised contextual user studies with network operators and field service technicians, primary future users of the new READy Suite app.

A radical reduction

This essential research inspired a radically reduced set of key features for the App. Only four prioritised buttons with the most essential functions appear on the home screen. This trust giving clear overview of functions that allows even first time users to easily operate the app in rugged out door situations.

This development of the new Kamstrup READy smartphone-app as a remote touch point for water-metering, led to improved workflow for the users.

A winning water-metering solution

“Based on their real-life studies with water utility technicians, design-people helped us develop a strong functionality and interaction concept for our new READy Suite. The design DNA gives all the components of the suite a consistent Kamstrup look and feel. We now have a strong new offering in the remote metering market, and reactions from our sales force and the first end-users have been extremely encouraging.”

The result

We made the look and feel of the App user interface relate to the design DNA of the desktop READy suite – and the award-winning design of the Kamstrup water meter, that also went through design-people’s hands. The new READy smartphone-app has a strong functionality and interaction concept that gives users a clear overview of the most essential functions on the home screen. The app's design DNA also gives it a consistent Kamstrup look and feel, which has been positively received by the sales force and end-users. Kamstrup now has a strong new offering in the remote metering market.
