The first of a new generation of welding machines

Migatronic, a renowned Danish company known for producing high-quality welding machines for professionals, partnered with long-term collaborator Design-People to create a vision for the future of Migatronic's design DNA. This collaboration led to the development of the CenTIG 200, marking the beginning of a new generation of welding machines.

The project involved several key services: design strategy, industrial product design, and digital UX/UI design. One of the main challenges was to reinvent Migatronic's design DNA, creating a modern, cohesive design language that suits various machine sizes and functional requirements. The design also needed to be modular to reduce the number of parts, ensuring cost-effective production and streamlined development. Consistent user interface principles across all machines were essential – transitioning from a range of screens, switches and different membrane keypad solutions to a single interface module for all models.

The design process began with analyzing existing welding machines and identifying areas for improvement. Through several design iterations, ideas were developed and tested. Work proceeded in parallel on a range of machines to ensure a unified design DNA and compatibility. The team also developed UI interaction principles, wireframes, and GUI components. We tested the design with relevant stakeholders (welders, sales, service and r&d), and finalized the outer surfaces and Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) details. The project concluded with the definition of design principles and the development of a comprehensive design guide.
